This week Pastor Nicole wrapped up The Barbie Movie series by showing us how much Barbie and Nicodemus have in common! We’ve been diving deep into the realms of deconstruction and restoration. And how this never ending process is supposed to transform us. In a world hungry for authenticity Barbie and Nicodemus take us on an exciting journey to spiritual transformation. Did you ever think that a doll and a pharisee could have anything in common?
In a climactic moment of The Barbie Movie, Barbie accidentally stumbles upon a woman working alone at her kitchen table. Unknowing, Barbie has just come face to face with her creator; Ruth Handler (played by the lovely Rhea Perlman.) Despite Barbie grappling with feeling imperfect in an imperfect world; Ruth sees it all as “marvelous. In a similar, clandestine meeting with Jesus, Nicodemus comes face to face with his creator. Wrestling with the way he knows things to be and the religion he teaches, he comes to Jesus for answers. Nicodemus’ encounter with Jesus sets him on a course to transform his mind, heart, and life.
So, This series hasn’t just been about deconstruction; but about pushing ourselves keeping into the processes of becoming. It is all about shedding the layers of perfection we have clung to, a lot like Barbie. While embracing the messiness of transformation, like Nicodemus. In order to be a part of the people who make meaning and restore the worlds faith in humanity, and their faith in God along the way.
