What is Prayer For?

Why do we keep praying? What is it eve for? Is God listening? Prayer is not just about asking for things. It’s about connection and relationship. Isn’t it odd that the disciples asked Jesus to teach them pray, even though they already knew how to pray? It is because they saw something different in the way that He prayed.

Jesus responded with a model prayer in Luke 11 and Matthew 6. He emphasized that prayers is not about a performance – it’s about presence! It’s about lifting up our souls to God.

Corporate vs. Personal Prayer

Jesus started the Lord’s Prayer with “Our Father…” – not “My Father…” This highlights the communal nature of prayer. Personal prayer is about our individual relationship with God. It’s when we seek Him privately, opening our hearts honestly. Corporate prayer, on the other hand, reminds us that we are not alone. When we pray together we gain a fuller understanding of who God is through the experiences and words of others.

Is God Listening?

This is the big question that everyone has asked at some point in their life. Is God Listening? If God loves us, why does it feel like He is silent? The truth is: God’ always answers. But not always in the way we expect. His answers come in different forms.

  • Yes – The answer we hoped for.
  • No – Because He sees the bigger picture.
  • Wait – Because the right time hasn’t come yet.

Philippians 4:6 reminds us to pray about everything. Even when we don’t understand. We are asked to trust God and his timing and plan.

Keep on Keeping on…

Prayer is access to God. It’s an expression of our relationship with Him – not a performance. Trusting in that relationship and that He sees what we cannot. What do we do when we feel unheard?

  • Keep Prayer
  • Be Patient
  • Trust God
  • Remember, He sees the WHOLE picture.

No matter where you are in your journey with God and prayer, know God is listening. Keep your eyes on him, not just on your circumstances. He is working, even when you can’t see it.
