David Thomas

Teaching Minister

I am a “born and raised” North Carolina guy who is a UNC Chapel Hill graduate and Tarheel fanatic. During basketball season you will find me glued to the TV screaming for my team. I am not only a graduate from UNC Chapel Hill with a Master of School Administration, I also have a Masters of Divinity in Counseling from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Bachelors of Social Work and Sociology from Appalachian State University.

I moved to SWFL in the summer of 2020 to serve as a school principal. I have been an educator for the past 22 years serving in almost every position in the school system; teaching, coaching, athletic director, School Counselor, Dean of Students, Assistant Principal and Principal. I have been a School Principal since 2013 and loved serving in that capacity.

But one thing I have always had a passion about and love doing is church ministry. I have been involved in ministry since I was 17 years old, serving in so many different roles from youth ministry, speaking at conferences and youth rallies, pastoring, music ministry, church planting, and working for the Baptist State Convention of NC in youth evangelism.

Finding Refuge Church has been such a blessing and I am thrilled to be able to serve with such an amazing group of people.  My faith in Jesus is the most important aspect of my life and I am so grateful for a church who welcomes and loves everyone just as they are and helps others grow in their walk with Him.

Since moving to SWFL, finding Refuge Church was an answered prayer and finding the love of my life was also an answer to prayer. I have been married to my soulmate and best friend, Adrian, since March 2021. We live in Fort Myers with our four four-legged “kids”, Cooper, Olaf, Finley and Lexie.
